Accepting new body shape

Thanks for the tips, I’d never have thought of men’s wear.

Hi Grandy1952,

Same problem here: I have found a brand of trousers that I can fit into with a very wide and soft elastic band but I’m not sure if I can give the name here. It rhymes with a type of skirt that was fashionable in the 80s and has 3 syllables. So I’ve bought jeans in pale blue, pale denim, dark denim and soon a black one I hope. They are not cheap but they often have offers and sales and they look really stylish. They also do shorts and skirts, but you have to measure really carefully. Sometimes the sizing isn’t consistent, and they are quite long, so need shortening for me. They also don’t encourage returns, they give you a choice of receiving a voucher instead or getting a replacement, so not always ideal. But they have saved my life and allowed me not to feel too bad about myself, paired with a stylish boxy top, I hope I look ok.

Now talking about the protruding stomach, do you mean the digestive stomach or also the lower abdomen? Both of mine are swollen and I wonder if it’s because I have fractured lumbar and thoracic vertebrae, or if it’s something different altogether…

Hello and thanks for your response, I’m loving the sound of the trousers/jeans but cannot think of the brand even with your clue. I’m sure you can mention brands, I’ve often seen it on here.:folded_hands:
Mine like yours is upper and lower protrusion and like you I have had both lumbar and thoracic fractures.
On awakening it’s not too bad, within a short while of being up it all comes forward and worsens as the day goes on…
Best wishes and more clues please or the brand would be fab. :birthday_cake:

Ha I’ve just twigged the brand, a famous desert!!

Thank you, yes they are quite pricey but definitely worth it.

We have a few stores within a fifty mile radius so I feel a trip coming on.

Best wishes

I’m sorry Grandy1952, the brand is Halara. I meant a ra ra skirt ?

Samee thing here, every morning I hope the protrusion is gone…only to be disappointed as the day goes…

Let’s keep fighting :slightly_smiling_face:

sorry saw your post too late

Thanks for confirming that Lulu, I’ve since discovered Sahara clothing brand and Kate Barton online. Their styles are perfect for lost height and ever protruding tummies.

They are quite pricey but they make you feel good about yourself again, not my normal style but life changes and I’m learning to adapt.

Keep smiling

Hi Grandy ,

I am re reading your post as I was looking for more inspiration for clothes too.

I am a little bit worried reading that you put on weight with Teriparatide.

Did you find it stimulates your appetite or it’s the injections that make your tummy swollen?

Will have the nurse tutorial visit in 2 weeks so will star injections then. :slightly_smiling_face: :folded_hands:

It’s difficult to say whether my tummy is due to starting Teraparatide tbh.
It certainly hadn’t increased my appetite that’s for sure.
I purchased some new clothes in April and they fitted well. Started the jabs mid May, since then I have put on about 5-6 pounds and the clothes I purchased are now to small.
Maybe it’s just a coincidence, I guess I won’t know until my two years are up.
Really hoping I don’t put on any more.
Good luck

Oh dear, I’m sorry to hear it but I really hope you stop putting weight on.

Btw I saw you mentioned Kate Barton and I found a lovely dress from that brand on a vintage platform at half price as I really didn’t know what to wear this winter. I think the gathered pleats at the front are disguising the tummy and I will try to replicate that pattern at home on my sewing machine, if I can, or rework the dresses I don’t fit in anymore…

Best of luck to you too :slightly_smiling_face:

Yes Kate Barton is superb, I purchased a denim one in their sale and it’s gorgeous. It really does disguise your Tummy plus the altered shap of your spine as well as it has a pleat at the back as well. I will certainly be buying another one, especially if there is one on Vinted.

Would love to make my own but can’t imagine that I’m in good shape to pin pattern in and cut out the fabric, I find it back breaking at the best of times. I’ve also just bought a lovely dress from one hundred stars, no pleats but it’s cut in such a way that it hides everything well.

These clothes are pricey but I’m of the opinion that less is more now, better to invest in a few quality pieces than a full wardrobe that does nothing for us. Good luck with your dress making, there are some nice Indi patterns around now. Take care

Thank you . I am the unrealistic optimistic type and I might get a wake up call when trying to make a dress:rofl:.

I shall look at the other brand, thanks for the tip. There are a few KB dresses at Vinted, also some Desigual tunics, my favourite brand. I love my pre-osteoporosis dresses but will have to reassess a lot in my wardrobe. I agree with good quality but I like diversity so have to budget for the fashion and look at sales too. Monsoon also have some empire line dresses that might suit.

Take care :blush::four_leaf_clover:
