Advice on my diagnosis

Hi,

Saw the consultant on the 20th August, informed me I have severe osteoporosis, and I am high risk of more fractures.

The osteoporosis is in my neck, back and hip, been off work since April 3rd when the fractures were found. Treatment is dependent on bloods to learn to do daily injections for two years. Been told can’t work in the stockroom, maybe look in to early retirement I am 61.

I have just started daily injections of teriparatide. After three weeks I am now comfortable with the injections which I do just before I go to bed. That reduces the likelihood of dizziness that can arise from low blood pressure in the first few hours after the injection.

The bisphosphonates didn’t work for me and I was determined to get on one of the anabolic drugs. I was told by the consultant that I was likely to have another spinal fracture within months and I want to do my best to prevent that.

For me, the side effects are minimal. I need to getup to urinate exactly 2.5 hours after the injection. I have very mild occasional bone pain and I am sometimes quite tired. But for me, it’s worth these to be rebuilding my bones.

Good luck :yellow_heart:

Thanks for your message and the information on injections., I am not really looking forward in doing this but it has to be done. I must admit I do feel low and anxious over the diagnosis, as earlier in Aug I was informed I have stage 3 kidney disease.

I will let you know how I get on when I get called in to start the treatment.

Don’t really want to start the process of early retirement, but will see what occupational health say when they call me on weds.

Thanks again for your message.
