Hi is there any one out there who has started HRT for the first time at 66, for osteoporosis as my rheomotologist said I could choose that as an alternative for medication

Hi, this is something that I have thought about but I was given Alendronic acid without any consultation, the hospital just sent a prescription to my gp so I’d be interested to know more if you have the chance.

Hi,

A specialist nurse from this charity has just emailed me and said it is more appropriate for someone at menopausal age to take hrt I was initially prescribed alendronic acid over the phone but it didn’t agree with me. I asked my gp if I could be referred to rheomotologist who suggested HRT gel a mild form which is low risk. I am taking vitamin D and doing weight bearing exercises. So I am still unsure as my gp said it’s my choice if iwant to take hrt so I will carry on researching.

I’ve been on HRT since early menopause aged 42 and just diagnosed with spinal osteoporosis aged 52, so clearly didn’t do a lot for me. It’s not recommended to start HRT after 10 years being Post menopausal. May be worth looking at The Menopause Support Network Facebook page for some advice on starting HRT later in life.

Sorry treatment didn’t work for you after taking HRT for so long. Were you taking tablets or gel?

Yesterday I had a private consultation and among other medications was prescribed HRT in spray format. I am in my 70s and have never taken it, despite having the menopause from Hell. I still get hot flushes which are very disruptive. So not all medics feel the same about it.

Neither. Transdermal Patches. Highest licensed dose for the last 6 years having worked my way up the strengths till I found the dose that alleviated menopause symptoms.

I started HRT at age 59, having recently been diagnosed with mild osteoporosis (T-score -2.7)

Just had a follow-up scan 4 years later, and no further bone loss, so very pleased.

Also helped with lots of other menopausal problems including mood swings and vaginal dryness.

Hi. I started HRT and Teriparitide when I was 69. No problems so far after 10 months.
