Also .. I also have congenital heart disease- bicuspid Aortic valve, no surgery so far but was advised not to take Calcium Carbonate and to try Calcium Citrate instead x
Hi Zoomie88 and welcome. Can I just jump into this conversation. I too had reflux but gave up the Lansoprazole and I’m taking aloe Vera juice with digestive enzymes (Holland and Barret) which I find very good.
I’m also taking a biphosphonate; my dentist is aware of this and sees no problems. I believe the side effect on jaw is very rare. The nurse at the Fracture Liaison Service explained before I started the meds that the dental side effect is very rare, usually seen in dental surgery such as extraction, but very treatable.
I hope you find this helpful and good luck with your journey.
Hi Horsehugger (love that!) Thanks so much for all the positive advice and great to hear that it’s still possible to see Nick Birch at his own clinic - I’ll definitely look into that. I too had a bicuspid valve but now successfully replaced with a new (tissue) one. It all happened very quickly after my annual EGG - not the best fun I’ve ever had but feel great now. Wasn’t really that painful surprisingly! Great tip re the Calcium Citrate thank you! The jaw thing is a bit of an anomaly! I guess my dentist is concerned because I’ve had a lot of jaw bone loss (which you’d think it would be a help with) which could involve extractions, and despite really looking after my dental health grrrr!. I think I’m more nervous about the riding because although I did a lot including BHSAI I haven’t ridden to any great degree for about 10 years due to life stuff. I’ve still got the bug though so would love to get back into it now. Ironically, I’ve, probably unwisely, done a lot of twisting and turning weeding the past weekend which is probably worse than riding but doesn’t feel it because I’m kneeling or sitting! I’ve added the some of the ROS exercises into my morning stretching routine so feel I’ve made bit of a start - being in touch with you here is giving me the nudge I need to embed some new habits into my lifestyle and take a bit of control at least.Yes would love to chat it that’s permitted… ? Thanks again so much! x
Hi GeordieMeg - thanks so much for that - I’l definitely give the aloe vera with digestive enzymes a go and try phasing out the Omeprazol. As I’ve just said to Horsehugger, the jaw thing is a bit of an anomaly - I guess my dentist is concerned because I’ve had a lot of jaw bone loss (which you’d think it would be a help with) but apparently it can make bone grow in a way that can make extractions difficult. Also I’m a wimp at the dentist and I think dealing with me with another layer of terror may just tip him over the edge! The fact it’s rare and treatable is encouraging though. I do have random swallowing issues sometimes and I’ve heard that Alendronic Acid can add to this - have you ever had that discussion please? Thanks again
Hi. I’ve been taking alendronate acid (Binosto is my brand name) for almost a year now. I’ve had absolutely no swallowing problems or worsening of reflux. I have a once per week fizzy tablet which is supposed to be better for reflux sufferers than once daily I think if that still proves the reflux you may have a 6 monthly injection - as my friend in America is having
Kind Regards
Thank you so much for the positive report on your valve replacement surgery, for the first time it has been discussed with me so hearing your positive feedback has reassured me. X
Zoomie88 I have checked the guidelines and we are not allowed to share personal details, but keep me/us updated how you get on.
