Vertabrae fracture

Hi everyone, I’m 58 yrs old and suffered a spontaneous fracture to the T10 vertabrae in October last year. Last week I had vertebroplasty to cement it in place. Has anyone had this done? And what was your experience? I have had really bad rib pain since having it done, but the spinal pain is maybe improving, or is it just that the rib pain is so awful. The pain since the fracture occurred has been dreadful, sleeping and standing for long periods of time is awful. Really grateful for any advice and on pain releif techniques.

I haven’t had your procedure but do have back problems and find a wheatbag warmed in the microwave is soothing. I have a long one so I love how it shapes to my body.

Thank you, I will try it…to be honest I will try anything. Its like a toothache in back of my ribs.

Meditation helps, or watching TV or listening to a book story. BBC sounds has a huge variety. It isn’t easy but trying to take your mind of that nagging ache. Won’t take the pain away but may diminish it in a small way and take your mind off it. I find reducing my time listening to news helps as I realised I was hypersensitive to what seemed never ending terrible stories.

I have a T10 wedge fracture, also happened in October. It was 5 weeks before it was picked up after two visits to A&E, they had only xrayed my lumber region. I am only having physio. I also fractured my femur in July so physio is for both after I self referred to the hospital. I’m finding my neck is clicking all the time, yesterday all the time while I was eating, I’m wondering if damage was done to my neck. I’m waiting for my next physio appointment to address it. I’m wondering if it’s also to do with sleeping, quite often on my back and then my neck falls to one side and then very stiff!

make sure you discuss with your physio. I had a neck problem but they thought it was brain. It was so frustrating as I had a brain MRI but couldn’t get a neck xray. Long saga, but basically they are so reluctant to organise imaging. I told the young doctor I could feel scrunching in my neck and he said it was because i was old! 61 at the time…..

Have you thought about getting a V pillow, one of those extra long ones. Then if you do sleep on your back you can took your self in to it so your head doesn’t flop to one side. I lay on my side with my upper leg over it with the other part tooked in my back to support my spine. Helps me alot

Thank you, i will look at getting one. I have a long body cushion which I used for my leg but i also have a small cushion that I use in between my knees if I’m on my side, it depends on what is hurting! If I lay too long on my side, my hip goes numb!
