Abaloparatide and denusamab (prolia)

i have been on denusamab for 8 years. broke my hip recently and rhueumatologist wants me to go on abaloparatide as well, ie both drugs at the same time. they work in different ways and i have read that they cancel each other out.

Hello and welcome  I didn’t know you could take them concurrently but google AI tells me it’s all good and you have to trust your rheumatologist. Keep us updated on how you get on and if you haven’t done so already a chat with the ROS nurse’s is always reassuring.

Yes, you can take denosumab and abaloparatide concurrently

, but this combination is typically reserved for clinical research or specialized management in patients at very high risk for fractures.

How the Combination Works

  • Denosumab is an anti-resorptive medication that stops bone breakdown by blocking a protein called RANKL.
  • Abaloparatide is an anabolic (bone-building) agent that stimulates new bone formation.
  • Concurrent use aims to increase bone mineral density (BMD) more rapidly and substantially than using either drug alone by building bone without a concurrent surge in bone resorption.

that’s good news, thank you. i havent started on it yet, still having all the health checks.
