Hello, does anybody on the forum take abaloparatide? I have seen lots of posts about teriparatide but none about abaloparatide, which seems to work in a similar way.
I would be very grateful to hear how people have got on with this treatment and whether they have experienced any side effects, in particular, heart palpitations or a fast heart rate after injecting the drug.
Hi, I have just decided that the treatment I want is abaloparatide. I probably wont start it until the end of October because I evidently have to have an ECG at my Drs surgery prior to starting and then the home care team need to make contact to show me how to administer the injections. Fingers crossed it works for me
Hi yes, I have been taking Abaloparatide for almost 11 months now. Carrying out the injections is fine, and just becomes part of your day. The ordering system for needles and the 3 monthly lots of the drug is very efficient. I think most people feel a little weird immediately after the injection. I get heart palpitations and a sharp drop in BP. At first this was a bit scary, but you just learn to lay down and give in to it for a while… a good book helps or take your injection just before bedtime. The reaction gets less the more you take the drug.
As for side effects, mine have been all related to digestion. At the beginning, after a month or so, I felt very nauseous, but found that the calcium carbonate in the prescribed calcium supplement didn’t agree with me at all. I changed to taking calcium citrate and this helped for a while. I also now suffer from silent and acid reflux, which I have never experienced before. I’m hoping that I can weather the storm of these side effects and last the full 18 months as the drug is meant to be great in improving T scores in the back… time will tell! I hope this helps.
Thank you so much for your detailed reply. You seem to be coping well with the drug and its side effects and it’s reassuring that some of them have lessened over time. I wish you well and really hope that the drug strengthens your spine. Best wishes to you, much appreciated.
