Hi, I am new to the Community. My Mum, aged 90 has, what I guess is severe Osteoporosis. She suffered a hip fracture 18 months ago, made good recovery but started getting vertebral fractures last September, 3 lumbar a 1 cervical that have been diagnosed. She has lost height and suffers chronic pain which is controlled as best it can be with Butec patches, paracetamol and heat packs (rechargeable ones are really helpful) We have ongoing battles with Adult care where Mum gets increased care visits when she has an acute episode then this gets reduced once she is deemed more able until another acute episode then care increases and so on. These acute phases are indicated by more severe pain but I don’t know whether more fractures occur or just muscle strains, but Mum finds them very debilitating. My opinion is that she should keep the care visits at least 3 times a day and this would reduce the things she has to do for herself like dressing which is difficult, consequently limiting the risk of further injury but this does not seem to be the way social services work. I’d be interested in other people’s experiences.
