I’m new here my name is Pam, it’s good to know how others cope with every day living.
Has anyone bought a long handled weeder for taking weeds out of the soil not just grass please?
I know it may sound an odd question but there’s no way I can get down to pull them out now after fracturing my T11 and L1 vertebrae and two more borderline off going too.
Hi Greenfingers
Welcome to the ROS community. I’m not a great gardener but I did my best until I started fracturing 3 years ago. Now have 10 fractures from L2 up to T5 so like you I can no longer get down to do stuff. So I got myself a long handle trowel, a contraption for getting out long rooted weeds, a jointed leaf picker upper and several grabbers (like the ones they pick up litter with).
It was very frustrating at first because everything takes so much longer but I’m used to it now and just take my time. I can’t do any heavy stuff or any planting but It does mean I can still get out and be useful. Good luck! x
Thanks Feline4, it’s good to know how others have managed in the garden.
I’m on the verge of getting a tool for getting the weeds out and I already have a grabber so similar to yourself.
It’s frustrating just watching the weeds grow and can’t do anything about it.
I bought a long handled weed puller and a small fork attached to a long handle. We’ve had raised beds built, as we grow vegetables and have really struggled with our grassy heavy clay even before my osteoporosis was discovered. The raised beds are much easier to work. Weeds still run riot in our garden but we manage to get the raised beds clear. Good luck.

I forgot to say, I also use a kneeler, and have to limit the time I spend otherwise it upsets my back. Afterwards it’s a good idea to do whichever stretches/relaxation things help to release any issues you’ve aggravated, and repeat them later if still required.

Were you given any exercises to do or have you just done your own thing?
I have a kneeler but find it difficult to lean forward but I’ll give it a try, thanks.
Hi, I use the long handed implements and litter picker, which work well.
I also invested in a cordless lawnmower, which has been a great help.
That’s good to know. I have a grabber which is very useful. Thanks for replying.
