Hello everyone
I’m new here and wanted to introduce myself before bringing my Mam along too.
My Mam has severe osteoporosis and over the years has had multiple spinal fractures. She’s also lost over 5 inches in height and lives with severe scoliosis. Alongside the pain, I’ve watched her navigate the loss of mobility, independence and confidence that can come with changes to your body.
Last year we suddenly lost my Dad. He was her main carer, but we carried a lot of it together and leaned on each other through appointments, worries and supporting Mam. Since losing him, I’ve stepped into that role fully and we’re now moving house so my Mam can live with us and be supported and cared for.
I joined because osteoporosis can feel like such an isolating illness, and I’d love to help her connect with other people who truly understand what living with it is like.
I’m also here to learn — to understand how I can support her in the best way possible now I’m her carer.
I’d love to hear from anyone living with osteoporosis, or supporting someone who is — especially if you’ve found ways to stay connected, maintain independence, or things that have helped emotionally as well as physically.
Thank you for having us

Hi Kim7,
welcome to our community. I was diagnosed 3 years ago & I have lost height & I am very conscious of my poor posture.
Joining this community is a great step forward, I have learnt so much from fellow OP patients & have learnt nothing from my GP. If your mam is not already a member of the Royal Ostorporosis Society, do encourage her to sign up. The ROS offer a wealth of information, regularly run online events & there are a growing number of regional group meetings. The ROS also have a free Nurse Helpline for all those unanswered questions. www.theros.org.uk
The support you & your mam will get from this community & from thr ROS direcly you will find invaluable.
Good luck
