Hi having recently been diagnosed with severe osteoporosis and waited 14 months to be told I have osteoporosis.
My consultant told me on Monday that I am very lucky to be given Romosozumab because it’s a new treatment, has anyone been given this medication and what are the side effects ?
I started on Romo (Evenity) in February. It is easy to administer once a month using what looks like an EpiPen. There are no restrictions on food & drink or the need to stand/keep upright for at least 30 minutes. I have had no reactions at all. Best of all, I read only last week that two ladies who had been on Romo for the prescribed 12 months saw a Dexa improvement of 38% & 42%. If you have been offered it do give it serious consideration for the benefits it’s likely to give you. Good luck
Hi - that’s such a long wait, i really feel for you. I am glad to see that other members have some helpful suggestions. Have you tried calling the Royal Osteoporosis Society helpline to speak to a specialist nurse? I found it very helpful to call them recently about the different forms of medication as the Rheumatologist is suggesting Romosozumab or possibly Teraparatide. I’ve been on Alendronic Acid for about 16 months and finally had a Dexa a couple of months ago which identified further degeneration in my right hip. I already have spinal fractures. It’s very helpful to read the contributions on this site - the impact of osteoporosis has been a life changing experience for me as there so much I can’t do that I took for granted only 2 years or so ago.
Like others, I too have been on Romosozumab since February. I get swelling and redness around the injection sites which last for a day or two and was having a headache again for a couple of days after but the last couple of months I haven’t had the headache. I was initially injecting in my thighs but find it is less uncomfortable in my stomach so I now do it there. I should be due for another DEXA around April next year as it will be 2 years since the last one and I’m desperately keeping everything crossed for a significant improvement in my bone density The company who supply the medication, the support staff and the nurses who talk you through your first lot of injections are all really great. I’m sure you will get along with it just fine
Thank you , I have been given more advice and reassurance from this site that I have from my consultant, thank you All once again I I really appreciate everything. Hope everything goes well for you.
