Upper Back pain

Hi, I’m 16 months post L1 compression fracture, lately the pain in my upper back is very uncomfortable whether I’m on the go or at resting, the past week or so I’ve had to sit with my heated blanket to ease the aching and take paracetamol it’s like a fine line between excercise or resting at the moment :disappointed_face:

Hello Sha 1313,

Sounds horrible. Think you have hit the nail on the head - unfortunately I think it is a matter of a fine line between resting and exercising. Could you lie flat on your back the floor for a while, legs bent at the knees or straight out depending 9n what feels best for you and just breathe in and out - maybe even on top of your heating pad?
If you are able to do that it decompresses your spine which might help or I find it helps more than sitting . We do that in Pilates and I often do it at home, it really feels good - the only catch is that you have to be able to get on the floor to lie flat although you could do it on your bed.

Good luck and hope your poor back feels a lot better soon.

I too have an L1 compression fracture. I struggled with pain for well over 12 months. Thankfully I have it pretty much under control now, but I do exercise every day. If I dont keep my core strong through exercise then the pain returns.

I do gentle exercises laid on my back on the bed just to mobilise my back before I get up. (Every day) I do some tai chi exercises every day (found them on instagram) and do weights 3 times a week. Also do balance and impact exercises every time I’m waiting, say for the kettle.

So for me movement is key and keeping core strong. If I don’t exercise regularly the pain comes back. Hope that helps.
