What do people do regarding having X-rays? My back began to hurt just before Christmas but I decided not to have an X-ray. Then it improved a bit and then got worse. I did have an X-ray but there was no sign of change or fracture. I don’t want to keep having the X-rays but it makes a difference to how I go about my day if I know there’s no break. Eg going swimming etc. I have had 4 spinal fractures.
Hello. It is best to avoid Xrays if possible due to exposure. I am not able to give medical advice and it might be worth you talking to one of the ROS nurses about this. In my experience when I fractured I experienced quite a lot of nerve pain and pain from several displaced discs. At times it was difficult to tell whether I was about to or had fractured again. This appears to be quite common and mine were picked up on MRI because the Xrays do not show nerves. I’m not saying this is what is going on with you but maybe between ROS and possibily having an MRI you might get some answers. Wishing you all the best
Thanks. Sort of what I think. My GP/Endo have dismissed my requests in the past for an MRI sadly but it would be useful to know what the nerves are doing.
That is a shame. Obviously we don’t want to expose ourselves to Xrays or MRI but sometimes they are needed. Through MRI it was shown that I had several displaced discs, degenerative changes to spine and some nerve damage. A root nerve was causing me to have numbness in leg. After having this it did take away a lot of the fear of not knowing and I had acupuncture which although I was sceptical about did actually help with the root nerve and no more numbness. I really hope once the fractures settle and your body adjusts to the changes it has to make in order to accommodate the fractures and changes to your spine that your pain begins to settle and become more manageable for you.
