Hi, I’m looking to change my calcium carbonate supplements for calcium citrate ones. I’m finding this a mine field and really unsure which ones to take. How did you all make the decision of which ones to take? Any recommendations?
Thanks

Hi Cade, I chatted about calcium and advertised this on a different thread so may get in trouble for advertising but here goes: For my digestion Adcal (calcium carbonate) is like chalk that I find tough to absorb so I switched to a calcium citrate supplement 6 months ago and it’s so much kinder on the digestion. I found it on Amazon and the Ca is combined with Vit D3, K2, zinc and moringa.
Thanks, I’ll take a look at that. I’m finding calcium carbonate starting to play havoc with my digestion hence wanting to change.
I switched to algae-based calcium but I am equally open to calcium citrate. Because my diet is quite calcium rich, I take only one capsule daily (about 250-300mg, depending on the brand) to try and ensure a total intake of 1200mg. If I understand correctly, the body can only absorb about 500mg of calcium at a time, so the intake is best divided across the day. Certain foods and supplements can also interfere with absorption, which is worth checking out, as are the potential side effects of over-supplementation with calcium (some of them quite serious). I take vitamin D3 and K2 Mk-7 separately in spray form, which is reportedly better absorbed and prevents any digestive issues that might occur with other forms. But I am no expert. These are just choices I’ve made after looking into the subject.
Thanks for this. Which algae based calcium have you switched to? I’m interested in taking vit D separately as I vary how many supplements I take in a day.
I get either Together Health calcium (i.e., not their bone aid version) or Higher Nature Icelandic seaweed calcium. I share you preference for taking certain supplements separately because the dosages in combined supplements do not necessarily coincide with what I want.
Thanks for this. It’s not easy trying to navigate calcium supplements.
