Collagen supplements

Hello there on a very warm afternoon. Does anyone know of any good evidence that supplementary collagen is of benefit for osteoporosis? I would not take animal or fish collagen it would be a plant based supplement, would this help? Thank-you :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi Gannet. Unfortunately, as far as I know there is no evidence that taking collagen has any benefit for osteoporosis. There seems to be a lot of marketing hype that it makes skin, hair and nails better, grow more etc, but there is no evidence to back up the claims. Some studies show a very slight improvement to arthritic joint pain, but the study didn’t include sufficient people to meet the standard crieria and, I think may have been sponsoroed by one of the companies selling the product. But…I am trying it! I’ve been taking it for about 4 months but can’t say that anything is different. I will finish the tub that I have then save my money! It doesn’t hurt to try these things if they are safe.
