Hi All
I am George I thought that I would send this post after reading some of the other member posts.
Having practiced Tai Chi and to give it it’s proper name Tai Chi Chuan and Chi Gong for over thirty years, I can fully recommend both sets of exercises for people living with Osteoporosis. After fracturing two vertebrae on my spine after being knocked off my bike I used my Tai Chi and Chi Gong exercises to help me cope better and to keep me moving.
Most people don’t realise that Tai Chi is a Chinese martial art and practiced regularily can help inprove your breathing, balance, co-ordination and your mindset. It is based on the principals of Yin and Yang which are complementary opposites. The outside circle of Yin and Yang is called Tai Chi Chuan which in Chinese is called Supreme Ultimate Fist. Tai Chi Chuan is often called moving acupuncture or moving meditation and practiced as a form. Chi Gong can be practiced standing, sitting down and sometimes not moving at all.
If you are going to try Tai Chi or Chi Gong, try and find a good Sifu (master, teacher). In doing this you will get proper advice of the best exercises and classes suitable for you. Always remember that in Tai Chi or Chi Gong everybody is different but all are treated with respect no matter your ability. One of the basic principles of Tai Chi is the rejection of brute force.
Hopefully this post has given people a slight insite to into Tai Chi Chuan and Chi Gong.
There is a great video on youtube to watch if you wish a set of exercises to practice.
