Their outlook on aging is remarkable. Their training appears to have done nothing but good, both look upright … though I did think when she was walking would have been better for her to have her hands out of the pockets, as I could visualise her falling over.
Yes, I agree, though I hadn’t noticed the hands in pockets. They’re both hugely motivating.
Amazing results. More people should be told about these benefits. I’m sure there are a lot of people out there who would never go to the gym for fear of breaking bones. Expert advice is hard to find. I have an appointment in March with a professional who specialises in people with osteoporosis, who will hopefully tell me what I can do safely and cannot do. Unfortunately not everyone has access to this sort of help, and therefore misses out on essential information.
They are amazing aren’t they ChloeC. I agree there’s a lack of reassurance about exercising from all quarters, eg GP, hospital clinic, and yet the benefits are not something new. The LIFTMOR study was published in 2019 and yet, again this hasn’t been mentioned by either GP or hospital. Even the Strong, Steady, Straight protocol which was published in 2022 was only mentioned on my DXA scan in the smallest print imaginable and not mentioned by my GP, I only noticed it my accident, but by then had discovered it myself.
I think the importance of exercise should be made clear when we get our results, rather than the “here’s some medicine, come back in 5 years” type attitude that some (most?) of us seem to get.
Good luck with your appointment. I have one in February to discuss treatment and why in my case was I prescribed medication straight away rather than an exercise programme. It might be I need both, but it’ll be good to have that confirmed.
Totally agree about exercise. My doc only made one recommendation, which was to visit the ROS website, which I did immediately and also did lots of other research. I also found a site on Utube by Margaret Martin who regularly emails you lots of info once she has your details, including several videos of how to exercise safely. Good luck with your appt. I hope you are given the help you deserve.
