Pregnancy associated osteoporosis

Hi everyone.

My name is karen & i am 36 years of age. I have 3 children 15, 14 & 17weeks.

i have recently been diagnosed with pregnancy related osteoporosis.

On the 21st of December 2025 about 6 weeks after i gave birth i was in extreme pain (actually in pain while pregnant and it carried on) i took myself to hospital and after two ambulance journeys to different hospitals i eventually had an mri which found that i had numerous spinal fractures old and new.

Had a dexa scan early jan which confirmed severe osteoporosis in my spine and osteopenia in both of my hips. I have scoliosis and also lost 3 inches in height.

Got an appointment with rheumatologist quite quick and she wanted to start treatment asap.

This week i got injections delivered and started on teriparatide for 2 years.

Wow you have alot to deal with Karen. Well done for getting started on teriparatide. Hope it goes well. Keep us updated and perhaps we’ll see you at the online session tomorrow evening.

Hi Karen

Just checking in as someone 34 with osteoporosis - mine due to having hormone issues where I’d be basically infertile ! It’s mad how so much of simply being in a female body can be a risk. You have all my support and solidarity and if you’re looking for others in the same young person boat and can make the group tonight or next time it would be great to meet you.
