Tai Chi and how it helps balance

I was diagnosed with Osteoporosis in 2020. I wasn’t aware of any fractures, but was suffering intermittent pain in my upper left leg. Was concerned as i had surgery and treatment in my left femur for bone cancer around 40 years ago. The diagnosis of Osteoporosis was a bit of a shock along with being informed of 2 spinal fractures, although I had no back pain. The ROS advised Tai Chi is a good exercise and beneficial for Osteoporosis. Have been attending classes for 3 years now, and it has definitely improved my balance and reduced the risk of falling. It is both relaxing and challenging and depending on your mobility can also be done while seated.

Hi DaveH, I wasn’t aware Tai chi could be practiced sitting, so helpful to read this. I will have a look on YouTube to see if there are some videos there. Agree, the relaxation with this type of exercise is so beneficial. Plus balance of course.

Hi Woofie, Yes, I inderstand you will find some info online about sitting Tai Chi. In my opinion it is very important if you have any form of disability to find an instructor who understands your limitations. In the class I attend there is someone who takes part in some exercises seated due to a knee injury. I have reduced mobility in my left leg as a result of treatment and surgery for bone cancer many years ago. My instructor is understanding and allows me to compromise. The relaxation and social interaction is so important though.

I have dine Les Mills Body balance before now, and Pilates and Tai Chi!

All these disciplines benefit us, mentally and physically..

Continue to enjoy!

Hi Tai Chi sounds good . Do you pay for private classes or go to somewhere like Nuffield gym for group classes ?

Hi Anita

I attend a weekly class. The social side of this is very beneficial as well. I discussed my limitations prior to joining, which he understood and makes allowances. This too me is important.
