Whey isolate protein powders

Hi, does anyone supplement with a protein shake? Does anyone feel it’s beneficial or are they just a marketing ploy? if using one can anyone recommend a really good quality one.

Hi, I have supplemented with whey protein isolate and also pea protein for years now, as I needed more protein in my diet (before I knew the link with bones) and this was the only way I could really get enough in with the complete amino acids profile. I had about 20g a day. As there are multiple factors involved in bone density improvement/score stability, I can’t say if this had an effect. But I believe it did to a degree. Two years ago I changed my diet slightly and adjusted the source of protein (so less powder, replacing it with food instead), then had a dexa scan. The results showed my bone density had got worse, whereas the scan before this showed an improvement. There are likely other factors involved in the scan results as during that time I also had a few months without a calcium supplement, but I think in powdered form like this the body probably absorbs it better. I personally avoid shakes though. The protein powder I use are the plain ones with no added extras: Pulsin pea protein and PinkSun whey isolate.

How do you use the protein powder, if not in a shake?

It can be mixed into yoghurt. Pea protein can be mixed into a paste/loose sauce and mixed into foods.

Thank you, yeah I’m not a fan of shakes as I can’t seem to be able to fit them in and I find them too artificially sweet
